PRESS RELEASE

Washington, D.C., May 1, 2021

Prime Transatlantic LLC, a policy advocacy and consulting firm with offices in Washington, DC and Berlin, Germany, announced today that Prof. Robert Hahn has joined the firm as Senior Advisor to support the expansion of the firm’s regulatory, sustainability, energy, and transportation practices.

“Bob’s reputation as a thought leader in academia and in senior government roles will significantly strengthen Prime Transatlantic’s core business and ability to service our clients on both sides of the Atlantic”, said John Schmitz, President of Prime Transatlantic. “Bob was an influential part of the White House team which designed the acid rain emissions trading program – the first of its kind nation-wide—as part of the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. His impact on policy extended broadly to our deregulatory initiatives, smart regulation and best scientific practices and use of data.” Prof. Hahn and John Schmitz both served together in the White House of President George Bush, during the time which Harvard Professor Robert Stavins later described as the “Golden Age of Bipartisan Environmental Policy Making.”

After leaving the White House, Prof. Hahn established the AEI-Brookings Joint Center for Regulatory Studies which he led for over a decade.

Prof. Hahn served on the faculties of Harvard and Carnegie Mellon. In addition to his new affiliation with Prime Transatlantic, Prof. Hahn continues his research with the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment at Oxford University. His recent research includes designing carbon markets, estimating the impact of low-income energy subsidies, analyzing the benefits of ride-sharing, and studying how regulation affects economic growth.

“I am excited to join Prime Transatlantic at a time of unprecedented need for innovative policy solutions to tackle critical business and societal challenges including energy, transport and climate”, said Prof. Hahn. “My background in regulatory and behavioral economics and Prime Transatlantic’s legal and regulatory focus offer our clients a unique combination of strategic and marketing support.”

Prime Transatlantic’s mission is to help companies and non-profit organizations develop and implement strategies to address complex business and policy challenges. The firm builds effective coalitions with key stakeholders to advance pragmatic, market-based solutions in the areas of sustainability, climate, and transatlantic relations. Clients have included Airbus, GE, the US Chamber of Commerce, Lufthansa, Enel, Microsoft and many other leading multinationals.
